What Is Microsoft Secure Score?
Microsoft Secure Score is a security analytics tool that measures your organisation’s security posture across Microsoft 365 services. It assigns a numerical score based on your current security configuration, user behaviour, and overall compliance with Microsoft’s recommended best practices.
The score reflects how well your organisation is aligned with Microsoft’s security guidance and highlights potential risks and vulnerabilities. Each recommendation within Secure Score is designed to help reduce the likelihood of a security breach by suggesting improvements tailored to your environment.
By regularly reviewing and acting on the insights provided by Microsoft Secure Score, organisations can make informed decisions, track their progress over time, and ensure they are continually strengthening their security defences measurably and strategically.
What Is A Good Score?
While there’s no one-size-fits-all target, understanding where your score falls within common benchmarks can help you set realistic goals and identify opportunities for improvement. As a general guideline:
- 0–30% = 🔴 High Risk – Significant security vulnerabilities. Immediate action is recommended.
- 31–60% = 🟠 Needs Improvement – Some protections in place, but many recommended actions are still unaddressed.
- 61–80% = 🟡 Moderate Security – A good foundation with room for fine-tuning and strategic improvements.
- 81–100% = 🟢 Strong Security Posture – Excellent implementation of Microsoft’s recommended best practices.
Keep in mind that Secure Score is dynamic – new recommendations may appear as Microsoft adds new features or your environment changes. Regularly reviewing and acting on your Secure Score helps maintain strong defences against evolving threats.
How to Check Your Score
To check your Microsoft Secure Score, first sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center with your admin credentials. Then, open the app launcher (the nine-dot grid in the upper left), select “Admin,” and navigate to the “Security” section under “All admin centers.” In the Microsoft 365 Security Center, find “Secure Score” in the left-hand menu to view your organisation’s security posture.
